They also like using plants in climbing up to the sills of the windows. Sealing and caulking all holes and cracks is an excellent idea.

Be Cautious and Sanitary

One of the best defense against ants is cleanliness. Clean up dirty dishes, wipe down your countertops, and cover any garbage. Do not leave any food out especially the sweet one. Place grains and starches like sugar, honey, or sweet syrup in containers that are sealed tightly.

Diatomaceous Earth

You can safely utilize food grade, powdered diatomaceous earth along the kitchen counter’s perimeter. This will literally rip through the exoskeletons of these ants and dry them out completely. Any of them that walks through it will day at last. This will not destroy the queen because she stays home throughout.

Use Bait

Make sure that the queen also goes otherwise she will continue laying eggs as workers continue to bring her what to eat. The bait traps that you buy at stores are not very effective. You can get some sweet baits and you can place drops along the corners of the counters and baseboards. The drops attract ants and they will eat this bait and carry some to the queen.
